… the socialization of boys regarding masculinity is often at the expense of women. I came to realize that we don’t raise boys to be men, we raise them not to be women (or gay men). We teach boys that girls and women are “less than” and that leads to violence by some and silence by many. It’s important for men to stand up to not only stop men’s violence against women but, to teach young men a broader definition of masculinity that includes being empathetic, loving and non-violent.

Just Nauseating

Ok I very rarely post directly political things and I fully expect this to be unpopular and lose me some followers but…come on Mr. President. Come. On.

I don’t consider myself anti-Obama (I was certainly NEVER pro-Romney or McCain), but his response to Medea Benjamin is borderline embarrassing, and I find myself supporting him less and less. Here you have a private citizen interrupting a Gitmo-centric speech (remember that place where people are tortured with no due process that he promised to close as soon as he was sworn in?), pointing out how terribly handled due process has been in Gitmo and with drone strikes and he…says the first amendment is protecting his free speech against her? no. no it is not. The first amendment protects private citizens FROM the government, not the other way around. not even a little. Now, Obama is a very intelligent and well-educated man, and I’m going to go ahead and assume he knows and understands the first amendment, but please don’t try and sell your citizens the idea that you, the president, are protected from them by the bill of rights.

And to stand there and smile as Ms. Benjamin points out the innocent deaths resulting from the drone strikes? Can you just not??? Those are real families that have been absolutely destroyed by OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Can you imagine what it would be like to send your kids off to play soccer on some corner somewhere and have them BOMBED? I’m not a parent but that isn’t a thought that puts a smile on my face.

I have been paying attention to the drone situation for some time now, and I have often wondered what Mr. Obama would say if someone could just directly confront him, on camera, about this situation. Now that it has happened I don’t know if I can express how disappointed I am.

so upset. I’m house sitting for my parents and my father left loaded mouse traps (the kind with the horrible gruesome snap) behind the fireplace grate, by the tv. just trying to watch an old chick flic and i got to hear the trap go out and a poor little field mouse struggle for about 15 seconds. had to open the grate and take the poor thing out. I mean, I couldn’t let it sit there and rot. god. so sad. not a good night.

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting FREE FOOD donated every day to abused and neglected animals in their shelters.
It takes less than a minute (only about 15 seconds actually) to go to their site and click on the purple box titled, ‘Click Here to Give - it’s FREE!’. Every click gives about .6 bowls of food to sheltered dogs. You can also click daily!
Keep in mind that this does not cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. [via.]

doesn’t cost you a cent, just a click.
